Amazon Experience

Located in the heart of the Amazon basin, the largest tropical rainforest in the planet, surrounded by ancient black-water lagoons, winding creeks and towering trees, Sacha would seem the least likely place to find any sign of human beings, yet visitors here can search for monkeys and tropical birds where few have stepped before, the perfect place for nature lovers, birdwatchers, scientists and adventure seekers. The Sacha program provides comfortable accommodation, first class meals and expert guides in order to fulfill your expectations so that you can fully enjoy the wonders of this unique paradise in a peaceful 4-day adventure.

Getting there
You will take a flight over spectacular snow covered peaks and vast Amazon valleys. We will land in the port of Puerto de Orellana, locally known as Coca. Here you will be received by a guide and taken to the town docks. From here a motorized canoe will take you down the Napo river in a ride of about 2 hours. Upon arrival at the nature reservation, the first adventure will be to take a walk along a raised boardwalk through the dense flooded palm forest.

Activities at the reservation
The reservation''s wide area allows visitors to explore several distinct but equally fascinating habitats. Several trails lead through pristine land forests, where kapok trees tower 150 feet above and roots form huge buttresses below to give the trees support. One of the most favorite activities of our guests is to paddle in dugout canoes along tannin-rich black-water creeks and lakes, where luxuriant lianas, bromeliads and palm trees thrive. For adventurous souls, night walks and canoe trips, with the aid of flashlights, often reveal creatures seldom seen during daylight. Caimans (of the alligator family) and giant insects rule the jungle after sunset… Do you dare to search for them?

Places to visit
The Observation Tower is one of Sacha Lodge''s highlights. 135-feet high (43 meters) , located on a hill, and built around a giant kapok tree for stability, the tower gives a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape.

The Canopy Walk (September 2000)
A recent addition to Sacha''s activities is our 940-feet long (300 meter) canopy walkway. Imagine exploring the rainforest up in the treetops at approximately 94 feet (30 meters) above the ground!

The Butterfly House
Sacha Lodge is home to one of the largest butterfly farms in Ecuador. Designed as a live exhibition conservatory, the Butterfly House is now successfully breeding nearly 40 local butterfly species!
